New chapter book series by Woolwich author
From the author of the award-winning “Small as an Elephant” and “Paper Things” comes a new chapter book series about sisters, Twig and Turtle, who live with their modern family in a tiny house. In these stories, the girls learn to embrace simplicity while still living large.
On Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. author Jennifer Richard Jacobson will be participating in a virtual panel hosted by Print: A Bookstore titled The Chapter Book Stage: Brief but Rewarding with chapter book authors Megan Frazer Blakemore (Frankie Sparks series) and V.T. Bidania (Astrid and Apollo series) for parents and teachers. As former teachers and librarians, the three writers will discuss the importance and joy of transitional books in supporting reading development. (Register at PRINT: A Bookstore).
In the first book of the series, Twig and Turtle: Big Move to a Tiny House, 8 and 6-year-old sisters are excited and curious about their cool new tiny house. But for Twig, that means leaving her BIG adopted Great Dane with her grandma. Twig struggles without her beloved dog. At school, she has to write about an opinion. And that gets her mind cooking. She is going to use her writing project to get her big dog back!
In book two, the tiny house rule that the girls can only have 5 toys (for space) is contested. Turtle really wants a miniature truck, and parts with an old toy in order to get it. But when Turtle goes to the local independent toy store, she is distressed to find the store divided in half, pink toys on one side, and blue toys on the other. Turtle is going to set that store right, even if it means taking sides in their small, tight-knit community.
