“The Searchers” - (1956; 1 hour, 59 minutes) - In this revered Western from Director John Ford, Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns home to Texas after the Civil War. When members of his brother’s family are killed or abducted by Comanches, he vows to track down his surviving relatives and bring them home journeying deep into Comanche territory. Also stars Natalie Wood and Jeffrey Hunter. The American Film Institute named it the greatest American Western. Thursday, March 25 at 2 and 7 p.m. and Friday, March 26 at 2 p.m. Presented in partnership with Skidompha Library as part of the Western Book Club and Film Series. “Minari” - (PG-13; 1 hour, 55 minutes – in Korean, with English subtitles, and English) - A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother. Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home. Winner of the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language, nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Playing at 7 p.m. Friday, March 26; at 2 and 7 p.m. on March 27, March 31, and April 1; at 2 p.m. on March 28.
