Lincoln County Republicans meeting
Lincoln County Republicans will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at the American Legion Post 42 at 524 Waldoboro Road (Business Route 1), Damariscotta. The social and refreshment time will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7. All Conservatives are invited to attend.
We have very special guests, Morrill and Karen Worcester, founders of Wreaths Across America. They will share the history of this Maine-based organization and its growth into a national movement that now has volunteers in every state. Most important, they will talk about the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach, and why it is so important to so many people in communities across America, all year long!
Liliana Thelander from Venezuela will give a first-person account of the damage socialism has inflicted on the people from her country from the original promise of utopia to a broken economy and a broken country and why we should be concerned about what is happening in the United States today.
Ed Thelander, a retired Navy Seal who served in Afghanistan, will speak about his time in Afghanistan and other military efforts abroad. It is a timely and tragic topic considering the complete and utter collapse of that country with many of their citizens, who supported us, risking, and losing their lives trying to escape.
The Helen Weston Scholarship winner, Eliza Nelson, will be introduced to attendees with a presentation of her accomplishments and efforts that resulted in her winning the award. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a deserving student from Lincoln County who show an interest in government and/or politics. The award is in memory of Helen Weston, the first woman to serve as a Lincoln County Commissioner. She died while serving in office.
