The Academy Awards nominations for Oscars are out! And “Licorice Pizza” scored in three of the top categories: Best Picture of 2021, Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson), and Best Original Screenplay (Paul Thomas Anderson). And, The New Yorker named it #2 on their list of 30 best films of 2021. you have two more chances to see it at Harbor Theater.

“Licorice Pizza” – (R - Language, sexual references, some drug use; 2 hours, 13 minutes) - Don’t miss this critically acclaimed film, Anderson’s stinging take on Hollywood in the 1970s and a coming-of-age story that features two brilliant newcomers to the screen, Alana Haim (noted singer) and Cooper Hoffman (son of the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman). They run around the San Fernando Valley in a typical teenage romantic frenzy with one caveat … Hoffman plays a 15-year-old and Haim is a woman 10 years older. Sean Penn and Bradley Cooper are the Hollywood ‘oldies’ in this far from typical romantic comedy. “Sunflowers: The Greatest Story Ever Painted” - Exhibition on Screen - (1 hour, 25 minutes) - Vincent van Gogh’s sunflowers are some of the most iconic paintings in the world. In an extraordinary exhibition, the Van Gogh Museum took a new and revealing look at the five publicly owned versions of sunflowers in a vase. Director David Bickerstaff traveled beyond Amsterdam to Tokyo, Philadelphia, London and Munich to film all five of the works and reveal the secrets about each, with its own different story. All five are now considered to be in such a delicate state that there will never be a show with all of them alongside one another ever again. Take this opportunity to see them and understand, at many new levels, both the paintings and the artist, Vincent Van Gogh. One show only at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18.

“Death on the Nile” – (PG-13; 2 hours, 7 minutes) - Director/actor Kenneth Branagh once again plays Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot in this 2022 film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s 1937 novel considered to be one of her best-loved and most famous works. Christie drew inspiration for this thriller from her travels in Egypt, picking up geographically and historical details throughout her time there. Poirot’s vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer on the Nile turns into a terrifying search for a murderer when a picture-perfect couple's idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short. Set against an epic landscape of sweeping desert vistas and the majestic Giza pyramids, this tale of unbridled passion and incapacitating jealousy features a cosmopolitan group of stylish 1930s travelers, and enough wicked twists and turns to leave audiences guessing until the final, shocking, denouement. Also stars Gal Gadot and Annette Bening. Plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, Saturday, Feb. 26; Wednesday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27.
