You can leave – with help
Dear Editor:
Many people know that October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month but not all understand how to be aware. Are you aware that someone you know may be in a domestic violence situation? Surprisingly, some of us that are don't even realize we are until we are so deep in, we see no way out.
What can you do? Listen. Guide, don't push. Discuss all options. Be patient. Never give up. Reach out to your local domestic abuse hotline, they will talk with you.
And after the victim fails to leave, be there for them. It's a difficult path to take and I myself failed many times. When I finally was able to leave, it was because the important people in my life never gave up on me. Don't judge, just be there for them.
If you're in a domestic violence situation, please reach out for help. I know sometimes you may feel completely hopeless. But there are so many people out there who are waiting to help. Reach out, make a call!
