Readathon raises more than $3K for family of WES student with medical needs
Wiscasset Elementary School students and staff gathered to show their love and support for fifth grader Willow Orr. A school-wide readathon raised $3,470 for the Orr family which included donations from community members as well. WES librarian Liz Bodkin led the event with the WES Chorus performing several choreographed numbers under the direction of music teacher Carole Drury. The whole school waved purple hearts while singing a song of love and kindness dedicated to Willow. Each heart has a personal message written on the back, which fifth grade teacher Kaden Pendleton delivered to her after school.
Also part of the assembly was a visit and song from WES occupational therapist Amanda Fortier, who is leading a schoolwide mission to teach every student K-5 to learn how to tie their shoes!
The assembly wrapped up with a PBIS-sponsored Glow Stick Dance Party the students had earned by yet again filling our school pom pom jar by being safe, responsible and respectful!
"We Take Care Of Each Other At WES" was clearly evident at this outstanding event!
