Holy Week services announced in Wiscasset
The congregations of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and First Congregational Church of Wiscasset invite all members of the community to share in the celebrations of Holy Week.
On March 24, Palm Sunday, services will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a palm processional, reading of the passion and Holy Eucharist at St. Philip’s. A palm processional and reading of St. Mark’s passion will take place at First Congo at 10 a.m.
On March 28, Maundy Thursday, First Congo will hold a service of holy communion and Tenebrae readings of the passion in growing darkness. The service begins at 7 p.m.
On March 29, Good Friday, St. Philip’s will present “Prayer and Meditation around the Cross.” The 7 p.m. service, held in the Parish Hall, will be in the Taizé tradition, in which prayers are sung rather than spoken.
On March 31, Easter Sunday, celebrations will begin at 6 a.m. with a sunrise worship service at the Wiscasset Town Pier (bring a blanket and chair) with a sermon by Rev. David Myers. At 9:30 a.m. The Easter Festival of the Resurrection Holy Eucharist will take place at St. Philip’s. At the10 a.m. worship service at First Congo, the title of Rev. Myers’ sermon will be “Go Ahead and Make Yourself an Easter Sermon.”
