Fuller pleads guilty to stolen vehicle transport
The Boothbay Harbor man believed responsible for a Midcoast Maine burglary spree pleaded guilty on November 8 to transporting a stolen vehicle across state lines.
Ronald Fuller, 63, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Portland to driving a stolen 1971 Chevy Malibu convertible, valued at over $30,000, from Maine to Missouri, where he was apprehended on April 10.
Court documents indicate that St. Francois County Sheriff’s deputies found about $8,300 in cash, the Malibu’s paperwork and a large amount of gold and silver jewelry in Fuller’s possession when he was arrested.
Fuller fled Maine shortly after Boothbay Harbor police conducted a search warrant at his Crest Avenue home on March 28. During the search, local police recovered two truckloads of jewelry, coins and other collectibles that police believe Fuller stole from private homes and businesses in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties.
In the plea agreement, Fuller agreed to waive indictment and plead guilty to interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle. He also admitted to three parole violations related to his supervised release in connection with a 1998 felony conviction.
Penalties for the charges Fuller pleaded guilty to on November 8 include a maximum prison term of 10 years, a maximum fine of $250,000, and a period of supervised release not greater than three years. Fuller may also be ordered to pay restitution to the victim of the offense.
Fuller remains in federal custody and is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge George Z. Singal on February 10, 2014.
Whether Fuller will face charges related to local burglaries is not presently known. Prior to his 1998 felony firearms conviction, Fuller confessed to several burglaries in the Boothbay Harbor area, but was never charged or tried in those cases.
