Wiscasset-area man sought for questioning
Gardiner police were seeking to question a man from the Wiscasset area after his girlfriend received a gunshot wound in Gardiner on December 7, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland confirmed.
The woman was taken by Lifeflight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with a gunshot wound, according to a Kennebec Journal report that McCausland confirmed on December 8; the woman was expected to remain in the hospital a few days, according to the online report.
State police assisted the lead agency, the Gardiner Police Department, the night of the incident, McCausland said in a telephone interview. He believed the State Police involvement in the investigation has ended.
Neither the woman’s nor the man’s name was being released.
The Wiscasset Newspaper made several attempts to ask Gardiner police about the incident and any Wiscasset-area connection to the investigation. Those on duty over the weekend deferred all comment until Monday, when Police Chief James Toman would be in.
The Kennebec Journal report that McCausland confirmed states that police believe the man they want to speak with witnessed the shooting.
