Curtain up at the Lincoln Theater
This week we are happy to have our rebroadcast of Richard II from the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as a concert of wonderful guitar music, live on our stage. Two distinctive events that you will not want to miss. As we head into 2014, and the movie award season, Lincoln Theater will also be bringing as many of the award nominated and winning films as possible to the screen. All four features in January have been nominated or received numerous awards.
Finally, we’re pleased to announce a very special program starting on Friday, January 10: “Downton” in Damariscotta. Every Friday at 2 p.m., we will be bringing the latest episode from the fourth (and current) season of the popular “Downton Abbey” to the large screen, free to the public. Be sure to mark your calendars now.
Last Vegas (PG-13, 1:44)
Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline play four childhood pals who reunite in Sin City to throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single. Closes Thursday, Dec. 26 at 2 and 7 p.m.
12 Years a Slave (R, 2:14)
Written by John Ridley and directed by Steve McQueen, “12 Years a Slave” tells the true story of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor). An African-American freeman in 1841, Northup was snatched off the streets of Washington, sold, and made to work on a plantation in New Orleans in the 1800s. Opens Friday Dec 27 with showings at 2 and 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 1 and Thursday, Jan. 2 shows at 2 and 7 p.m.
First annual Holiday Guitar Night
We have been eagerly preparing for our first annual holiday guitar night with Steve Bennett and Eric Lugosch. Sadly, Steve experienced an injury to his hand over the weekend and will be unable to play for an extended period of time. Fortunately, jazz guitarist (and former Lincoln Academy instructor) Gary Wittner has offered to join Lugosch for this very special event. Please join us Saturday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. Youth age 18 and under can enter free — so bring the entire family.
The Royal Shakespeare Company, Richard II (2:55)
In a Lincoln Theater first, join us for an encore screening, rescheduled from our earlier snow cancellation, of the premiere Royal Shakespeare Company broadcast of Shakespeare’s Richard II, captured live from the stage in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The story of power and plotting, Richard II is the first of Shakespeare's four plays about the House of Lancaster. Richard is King, ordained by God to lead his people. But he is also a man of very human weakness. A man whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and drag his people into a dynastic civil war that will last 100 years. Playing Sunday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.
