Wiscasset man accidentally shoots himself, gets LifeFlighted
UPDATE: As of January 14, Daniel Reed is reported to be in “fair” condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

At approximately 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, Wiscasset Police, Fire and Ambulance personnel along with Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Jared Mitkus responded to 936 Gardiner Road for a reported gunshot wound.
Daniel Reed, 49, of that address had allegedly shot himself and reported it to police.
Sergeant Kathy Williams and Mitkus arrived to find Reed seated in a recliner in the living room of the residence. The firearm was identified as a .22 caliber TALA semi-automatic pistol, which officers secured and held for safekeeping.
Reed told officers he had been “messing around” with the weapon when it went off. According to officers, the round entered his left chest just below his breast bone and exited his back. Wiscasset Ambulance personnel treated Reed and a LifeFlight helicopter was called to transport Reed to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment.
The latest update as far as Reed’s condition was that he was in surgery for his injuries.
