Wiscasset man pleads guilty after shooting
A Wiscasset man has pleaded guilty to accidentally shooting his girlfriend in 2013.
Sean Kingston, 38, who splits time between Wiscasset and Gardiner, pleaded guilty May 6 in Kennebec County Superior Court to reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Kingston will serve two years in prison.
Kingston was originally arrested December 9, 2013 after a December 7 shooting sent his girlfriend, a 34-year-old woman from Gardiner, to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with a gunshot wound in her torso. The woman has since recovered and reportedly verified Kingston's claim that the shooting was an accident.
After Gardiner Police interviewed him about the shooting, they arrested him and originally charged him with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Kingston was prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm after a 2010 conviction for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and operating a vehicle while his license was suspended or revoked.
