Nobleboro man arrested for gross sexual assault
Update: Corey Pitcher found not guilty of charges
A Nobleboro man has been indicted for four counts of sexual assault that are alleged to have happened almost 15 years ago.
Corey Pitcher, 45, was arrested in February and indicted by the Lincoln County Grand Jury for four counts of gross sexual assault, which is a Class A crime.
Pitcher is alleged to have sexually assaulted a minor almost 15 years ago.
The indictment alleges that between January 2000 and December 2001, Pitcher committed various sexual assaults on the minor.
The girl was reported to have been between 11 and 14 years old during the time of the assaults.
Pitcher was initially arrested February 28 of this year and denied having sexual contact with the minor.
Because of the nature of the crimes, there is no statute of limitations.
According to Maine title 17-A §8 the statute of limitations hasn't been voided “if the victim had not attained the age of 16 years at the time of the crime, a prosecution for: incest; unlawful sexual contact; sexual abuse of a minor; rape or gross sexual assault, formerly denominated as gross sexual misconduct, may be commenced at any time.” (Source: Maine Revised Statures).
If convicted, Pitcher could face up to 30 years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine.
