New Jersey man serves six years on drug trafficking charge
A New Jersey man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following a Maine Drug Enforcement Agency bust in Whitefield.
LaQuinn Evans, 35, of Monalawkin, N.J., pleaded guilty May 29 in Lincoln County Superior Court to aggravated trafficking and was sentenced to 12 years in prison with all but six years suspended, four years of probation and was ordered to pay $515 in fees.
Evans was originally charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, which is a Class A crime, illegal importation of scheduled drugs, which is a Class C crime, and criminal forfeiture.
Evans admitted the forfeiture and pleaded guilty to the aggravated trafficking charge while the importation charge was dismissed.
Evans was arrested September 26, 2013 after the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency had controlled buys of 30 milligram Oxycodone pills from Nichole Collins and Jeremiah Moore.
After the pair was arrested in Damariscotta, a search warrant was conducted at their house, where a man who identified himself as Stephen Maddox was found. Maddox, in turn, turned out to be Evans, who had a previous trafficking charge in 2003 in Maine and who also had a warrant out for his arrest in Kennebec County.
Evans reportedly admitted to being Collins, and Moore's supplier, that he'd brought 150 pills to the couple from Boston, and that Moore owed him more than $3,000.
Evans was found to have $3,400 in his possession.
Collins and Moore were interviewed, at which point they reportedly confessed to selling the pills throughout the Midcoast region.
