Woman hurt in Dresden ATV accident
A Virginia woman became pinned under an ATV off Route 128 in Dresden on June 28, causing severe pelvic injuries but none that appeared to be life-threatening, a Maine game warden said. Her two daughters, ages 8 and 10, were also on board when the four-wheeler hit a small hill and flipped over, ejecting them. It landed on her, Warden Doug Kulis said in a telephone interview June 30.
Rescue workers freed Maria Ingegneri, 27, who was then taken to a hospital for treatment, Kulis said. He did not know which hospital. The 10-year-old girl complained of arm pain; she and her sister were checked out by medical personnel, but Kulis believed that neither was transported.
Dresden Fire and Rescue and North East Ambulance responded to Saturday’s accident, off Route 128 near the Woolwich line. It happened in the dooryard of a relative of those riding the ATV, Kulis said. The mother and daughters were not wearing helmets.
“They were very fortunate they didn’t have worse injuries not wearing a helmet,” Kulis said. The accident happened on soft ground, which likely helped limit the injuries, he said.
Speed appears to have been a factor, Kulis said. He described the case as closed and did not expect any charges to come out of it.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office helped to secure the scene and control traffic, Kulis said.
