New Hope for Women to present workshop on identifying domestic violence
New Hope for Women (NHFW) will present a workshop on Nov. 22 for healthcare professionals designed to provide practice in identifying and responding to indications of intimate partner violence in a manner that promotes victim safety and abuser accountability.
Working in collaboration with the Maine Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAAOM), the two-hour discussion will focus on ethical decision making, best practices in record keeping, and understanding options for referrals. Information will be available on suggested billing codes to utilize the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirement for health plans to cover domestic violence screening at no cost to victims of intimate partner violence.
Participants will be given tools for assessment of intimate partner violence as well as access to NHFW’s 24-hour hotline for assistance in assessing individual cases and providing safety planning in a confidential setting. The workshop is open to members and non-members of the MAAOM and is eligible for continuing education credit. Cost is $20 for MAAOM members and $25 for non-members.
The class will be held in Bath at Mid Coast Maine Community Action, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Conference Room C. Coffee and networking will begin at 9:30 a.m. immediately followed by the workshop at 10 a.m. To register online, go to maaom.org/workshops-and-events.
