The Lincoln Home hosts talk on diet and dementia
The Lincoln Home's third talk in a free five-week educational series on caring for someone with dementia is Tuesday, March 17, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Louise Spate, RD, will be speaking on the many challenges and pitfalls in maintaining nutrition for people with dementia. Louise teaches a very pragmatic approach, focusing on what really helps people with dementia to keep eating as the stages progress.
As a registered dietitian, Louise has worked in a variety of consulting and management roles for more than 40 years with Kindred Healthcare and very closely with dementia patients in single facilities. She is a well-respected consultant, manager and speaker on dietary issues related to dementia.
Each participant in the series will be loaned a copy of the bestselling novel, "Still Alice," to read on their own. Still Alice is an excellent portrayal of an accomplished linguistics professor diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The final meeting of the five-week series will be an in-depth discussion of "Still Alice," integrating the knowledge and wisdom gained from the speakers and reading of the book.
A brown bag lunch will be provided by The Lincoln Home Continuum of Care to all registrants at no charge. The Lincoln Home is located at 22 River Road, Newcastle. Please RSVP to kacie@one2one.org or at 207-563-3038 as space may be limited.
