A former state trooper received 5 years in prison with all but 21 months suspended and four years of probation for unlawful sexual contact with a young girl.

Gregory Vrooman, 46, of Nobleboro, was covicted in April of four counts each of unlawful sexual contact, unlawful sexual touching and assault against a girl when she was 12 and 13 years old.

Vrooman's sentencing was held June 25 in Lincoln County Superior Court. He remains free on bail pending appeal.

Following the hearing, Vrooman's attorney confirmed that he will be appealing the verdicts.
