“Hail Caesar,” is an all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood's Golden Age written and directed by four-time Oscar winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen.
The film follows a single day in the life of a studio “fixer” who is presented with plenty of problems to fix: placating a disgruntled director, a singing cowboy, a beautiful swimmer, and a handsome dancer. As if all this isn't enough, he faces his biggest challenge when superstar Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) gets kidnapped while in costume for the swords-and-sandals epic, “Hail, Caesar!”
The film also stars Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, and Channing Tatum. Screenings: Wednesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m.
“The Lady in the Van” Alan Bennett's story is based on the true story of Miss Shepherd (Dame Maggie Smith), a woman of uncertain origins who “temporarily” parked her van in Bennett's London driveway in 1973, and proceeded to live there for 15 years. What begins as a begrudged favor becomes a relationship that will change both their lives. Acclaimed director Nicholas Hytner reunites with iconic writer Alan Bennett (“The Madness of King George”) to bring this rare and touching portrait to the screen.
Bennett first told the story in book form in 1989 and as a play in 1999. This is Smith's third portrayal of Miss Shepherd; Smith was in the original stage version at the Queen's Theater, and in a BBC 4 radio version, both in London.
“The Lady in the Van” plays at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 4, Saturday, March 5, Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10; Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m.
The Harbor Theatre is located at 185 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor, in the mall across from Hannaford. For more information, call 207-633-0438 or visit www.harbortheatre.net.
