U.S. Air Force band Langley Winds in concert June 10
The United States Air Force’s Langley Winds are a pioneering woodwind and percussion ensemble bringing innovative programming to audiences throughout the country and on Friday, June 10 their national tour includes a stop in Maine at the historic Opera House in Boothbay Harbor. The performance is free and open to all ages.
Opera House Director Cathy Sherrill said the Langley Winds had heard about the great audience response their fellow USAF musicians in the Heritage Brass Ensemble received last June.
“Last year’s Air Force show was tremendous,” Sherrill said. “We immediately said yes, we’d love to have the Langley Winds take command of the Opera House stage. The group is from Joint base Langley-Eustice in Virginia.”
The nine member ensemble includes flute, oboe, bassoon, Bb clarinet, French horn, bass clarinet and percussion. During the evening audience members can expect to hear creative arrangements of old familiar American and patriotic tunes as well as new compositions.
The group is “dedicated to using the power of music to honor veterans, inspire patriotism, and communicate the Air Force story.” The professional military bands who have included a stop at the Opera House in their New England tours have never failed to bring residents and visitors to their feet.
The performance is free. Doors for seating will open at 7 p.m. and the band will go on stage at 7:30 p.m. No tickets are needed for this performance.
