The Ennis Sisters on stage July 28
The lyrics by Maureen Ennis from the song “John William,” speak of the lineage into which she and her sisters were born. Newfoundland’s Ennis Sisters learned to sing around the time most people learn how to walk. On Thursday, July 28, these cultural ambassadors and masters of harmony and humor, travel to Maine to perform at the Opera House in Boothbay Harbor.
Their performances remind audiences of a night in an Irish pub and include both traditional Newfoundland and Celtic tunes as well as original songs, humor-filled stories at times, and step dancing. In addition to their tight harmonies the sisters accompany on guitar, tin whistle, flute and bodhran.
With a Juno award (Canadian Grammy award), a SOCAN award, multiple ECMA and Music NL awards including Best Traditional Album and Group and Album of the Year, the Ennis Sisters have performed in Australia, The Middle East, Europe, and the U.S. as well as their native Canada, accumulating three gold records along the way and sharing the stage with such widely respected artists as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Mary Black, Jann Arden, Cherish the Ladies, Great Big Sea’s Alan Doyle and the Chieftains.
