Henry A. Hartwell III
Henry Ameroy "Chip" Hartwell III, 71, died August 19, 2016 after living with love and hope through his battle with cancer. He lived in Closter, New Jersey and Southport Island, Maine.
Chip was born in Tenafly, N.J., to Henry and Eleanor Hartwell. He graduated from Tenafly High School, and Hobart College. The first 20 years of his career was spent in advertising at N.W. Ayer from where he retired as a senior vice president. His true love of woodworking and building led to a successful second career using these skills in designing custom cabinetry and furniture and remodeling home interiors for Henry Henry & Amy of which he has proprietor.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Marie (Ree) Doyle Hartwell; his treasured son, John Doyle Hartwell (Meg) of Oakland, N.J.; his cherished daughter, Amy Griffin Hartwell of Tappan, New York; his precious granddaughters, Amanda, Erin and Morgan; his dear sister, Judith Hartwell Brooks, of Falmouth, Maine; the many Doyle in-laws of Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia, and by his many nieces and nephews from Maine to California.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Susan Hartwell Foster Gunn Cutter. He will be remembered by hundreds of friends, from grammar school onward.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 27 at The 76 House in Tappan, N.Y. from noon-4 p.m. Guests are encouraged to wear blue jeans and no socks.
