Call to Artists for the ‘Fall/Harvest Exhibition’
River Arts is inviting artists throughout Maine to submit artwork for jurying in its upcoming exhibition, “Fall/Harvest.” Artists can submit up to three works in any medium including sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics and fine craft – representational or abstract.
Work can be delivered anytime during gallery hours from now until the deadline, Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. The exhibition will hang Sept. 9 through Oct. 1 with an opening reception Sept. 9 from 5-7 p.m.
Critic and art historian Martica Sawin will be the juror for this exhibition, She has been writing on contemporary art since the 1950′s when she was a contributing editor of Arts and New York correspondent for Art International. Sawin chaired the department of history and criticism of art and design at Parsons School of Design for 30 years. She is the author of “Surrealism in Exile and the Beginning of the New York School” and of many books and museum catalog essays on contemporary art and artists. Her winter home is the West Village in New York City and for 40 years she has spent summers on Basin Point in Harpswell.
Artists may submit up to three works for an entry fee of $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Artists will be notified by email or phone of the juror’s decision. Submissions may not have been shown at River Arts previously.
Entry forms are available online at www.riverartsme.org and at the gallery when submitting. All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work size maximum: 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width – and for safety reasons plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels. River Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Mondays. River Arts is located at 241 U.S. Route 1 in Damariscotta.
