Colorway to close out Boothbay Harbor Fest at Mine Oyster
The Northampton, Mass band, Colorway, who will be closing out the live music showcase portion of the Boothbay Harbor Fest with a show at Mine Oyster on Saturday, Sept. 9. Colorway is a guitar heavy, pop rock trio formed and fronted by Independent Music Award winning guitarist, F Alex Johnson.
Bandleader/vocalist/guitarist Johnson gobbles up every inch of real estate on his guitar neck while bassist Matt Clegg and drummer, Riley Godleski hold down the fort with equal parts grace and ferocity.
The trio, which has been around for five years, has been really tearing things up lately, playing a mix of pop rock laced with some seriously adventurous and exciting lead guitar work. Colorway most recently was picked to open the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band show at the 1,200 seat Calvin Theater in Northampton and received a standing ovation from many of the newly made fans in the crowd.
Colorway has opened sold out shows for Foreigner, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, The Yardbirds, Delta Deep (featuring members of Def Leppard and Stone Temple Pilots), Ian Hunter, Quinn Sullivan, and Television’s Richard Lloyd (who called the group “amazing and inspiring”). The band was included in the 2016 Green River Festival alongside Dawes, Los Lobos, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Shakey Graves, Peter Wolf, NRBQ and tons more over three days.
Colorway tours the U.S. regularly and has a new album and tour planned for spring 2018. They'll be featuring some of the new material at the show at Mine Oyster.
The band's most recent album, “The Black Sky Sequined,” was mastered in Portland, Maine, by audio engineering legend, Bob Ludwig. You can listen to the whole album via this Bandcamp link. The video for the album's first single, "Come Back July" was called "impossibly catchy" by Diffuser's Chuck Armstrong when the internationally acclaimed entertainment blog debuted it in 2015.
The band is looking forward to the gig at Mine Oyster in Sept. Said Johnson, “Maine has always been a special place for me as our original drummer (and my longtime musical collaborator), J.J. O'Connell is originally from Bangor. And when I found out I could attend the mastering session at Gateway Studios in Portland with Bob Ludwig I jumped at the chance. It was always a dream to get to work with him and have his name in the liner notes of a piece of music I created. Plus Portland is such a great city and Mainers all over the state have always been supportive of the kind of music we play: rock and roll with a lean on the fiery guitar, but never sacrificing the fact that the song has to mean something and stay with you. The Boothbay Harbor Fest looks like a fantastic event and we're looking forward to bringing what we do to a new audience."
