Sean Fleming, John David Adams, and Dr. Anthony Antolini present “An American Sampler: American Music from 1855 to 1989” on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. at The First Congregational Church, Camden
Featured at this concert will be song settings and instrumental pieces by Stephen Foster, Charles Ives, Amy Beach, Scott Joplin, Samuel Barber, Cole Porter, John Duke, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Myron Roberts, and more. Beautiful settings of the poetry of Walt Whitman and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow by Charles Ives and Leonard Bernstein will be sung by bass-baritone John David Adams.
Dr. Anthony Antolini will join Sean Fleming for a piano and organ duet, the "Church Sonata" by Myron Roberts. The two will also perform a rarely performed duet, the "Introduction and Fugue for the Organ 4 Hands on a Melody by Samuel Webbe", written for two players on a single organ.
Scott Joplin’s beautiful waltz “Bethena” will be featured, as well as piano pieces by a very young Samuel Barber, and an example of Aaron Copland’s movie music.
