Vox Nova Choral Consort presents ‘The Four Seasons: Winter Solstice’ concert
Vox Nova Chamber Choir and INTIMA present their second of a four-concert series with performances Saturday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at The Franco Center, 46 Cedar St. in Lewiston; and Sunday, Jan. 21, at 3 p.m. at Studzinski Recital Hall, Bowdoin College, Brunswick.
The music for Winter Solstice heavily evokes both the wildness of nature and the cultivated aspects of the season. Stephen Paulus’ “Evensong” and “Auld Lang Syne” are seasonal and the other repertoire is natural and highlights the extreme beauty of northern landscapes: Ēriks Eŝenvalds’ “Northern Lights,” Ola Gjeilo’s “Tundra,” “Winter Light” for Chorus and String Quartet by Michael Gandolfi, John Muehleisin’s “Snow” and others will create a vivid, wintry landscape for the audience.
Vox Nova Chamber Choir (Est. 2009) under the direction of Dr. Shannon M. Chase, champions the expansive body of modern and contemporary choral repertory. The choir sopranos are Jennifer Caton, Ciara Hargrove, Caroline Koelker, Erika Leighton, Amy Maier, Julia Nadeau, Susan Purcell and Julie Richard; altos: Ashley Albert Barbara Beckelman, Kate Comaskey, Jean Edmondson, Liz Helitzer, Susan Kring, Eileen Stirling, Topp and Rachel Turner; with tenors: Drew Albert, Steve Amsden, Virgil Bozeman and Robert Haines; singing bass are Sheldon Bird, John Fischer, John Gilmour, Matt Jones, Del Leonard, Burke Long, Ryan Newell, George Voyzey, Christopher Welch and Steven Weston.
