Heartwood Summer Camp early registrations
Spots are already filling in Heartwood’s 16th session of summer camp for students entering grades 3-12, scheduled to run July 2-12. Heartwood’s theater camps teach performance skills and promote student confidence both on and off the stage, with a fundamental spirit of ensemble.
Scholarships are available upon request, thanks to the help of many local business donations and grant support.
“Kids Camp” is a popular eight-day program exploring the areas of storytelling, stage combat, improvisation, Broadway dance, mime/movement and acting, designed specifically for students entering grades 3-8. No prior experience necessary.
For middle school students who have previous theater experience and for high school students, the eight-day “Intensives Camp” focuses on the multiple areas of Broadway dance, scene work, stage combat, classic/poetic language, improvisation, mime/movement and monologues.
All students will work with a diverse and professional staff: Griff Braley, Heartwood’s artistic director and LA drama teacher; Alison Machaiek, award-winning drama instructor at Oceanside High School in Rockland; Broadway Choreographer/Singer/Dancer/Actress Michelle Bruckner; Karen Montanaro, mime/dance artist and teacher; and Mark Bedell, certified fight master and professional stuntman/fight choreographer.
The student/teacher ratio is very low, with the help of several professional actors in residence for Heartwood’s summer production of “The Secret Garden,” who will work closely with students, sharing their acting experience and enthusiasm for the stage.
Many sponsors make Heartwood’s youth programming possible, including Heartwood’s Season Sponsor, Bath Savings Institution, Season Youth Sponsor, Damariscotta Hardware, and The Rising Tide, camp snacks sponsor.
