YMCAs offer teen leadership opportunities
The Central Lincoln County (CLC) YMCA and the Boothbay Region YMCA are offering teen leadership opportunities this summer for youth ages 13-15.
Camp K Leader in Training (LIT) and Counselor in Training (CIT) programs provide opportunities that prepare teens to not only become staff members at camp but to also become productive members and volunteers in their home communities. Participants work side by side with camp directors and camp staff to lead daily camp activities and will join forces with local organizations to volunteer in and around the community.
The LIT program is designed to begin a career in leadership with discussions and activities about types of leadership, communication styles and methods, service work, and team building. LITs will participate in daily camp activities and are expected to work side by side with camp staff.
The CIT program focused on teaching styles, delivery methods, communication techniques and planning preparation. CITs must be strong, independent and focused on helping make a better community for all. With this, they will gain valuable hands-on experience working with youth, leading programs and activities. CITS will participate in daily camp activities and are expected to work side by side with camp staff.
Both Camp K LIT and CIT programs run in four-week sessions, June 25-July 20 and July 23-August 17. LIT session fees are $250 for family members, $300 for members, and $400 for non-members; the CIT program is free.
New this year is the Y-Arts LIT and CIT program, designed for youth interested in continuing their dedication to the arts at the YMCA. Theatre Camp LITS and CITs will work with the Theatre Camp staff to take on more of a leadership role while still enjoying the perks of being a camper. Theatre Camp LITs and CITs will perform in Theatre Camp shows as well as participate in daily Theatre Camp activities. As a prerequisite, LITs and CITs must have attended Theatre Camp in previous summers or completed an interview with the program director, Emily Mirabile. Contact Emily at emirabile@brymca.org.
Y-Arts LIT and CIT program runs in two-week sessions, June 25-July 6, July 9-20, July 30-August 10 and August 13-24. LIT session fees are $125 for family members, $150 for members and $200 for non-members; CIT is free.
