Adult academic classes at Wiscasset Middle High School
Merrymeeting Adult Education and RSU 1/Wiscasset Adult Education are currently collaborating to offer HiSET (formerly GED) Prep, College Transitions, and English classes to those seeking diploma
at Wiscasset Middle High School.
All classes are at no cost to the student. This class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. Two teachers have been hired to provide a full range of services for interested students. Andy Bayadsy and Patricia Swain provide academic instruction for interested students in the area. Both teachers come to this program with extensive and wide ranging experience.
HiSET prep classes prepare the student to sit for the HiSET exams which consist of a series of five tests that Maine uses in the process of issuing a high school equivalency credential. The exam allows the student to show they have the same academic knowledge and skills as a high school graduate. Adult education provides prep as well as sitting for each exam.
The College Transitions program prepares the student with a high school credential to pass Accuplacer testing required of community colleges and universities.
English for students seeking diplomas would include high school seniors in jeopardy of not graduating and students who are no longer attending high school but are missing a Senior English credit to
complete the diploma requirements.
To learn more about this program or to register for this class, please call Dawn Wheeler, RSU1/Wiscasset Adult Education site coordinator, at 443-8255. Arrangements can be made to meet students at the Wiscasset Middle High School location to complete the registration process.
Funding for this class is provided by local funds contracted through Wiscasset schools.
