The Green Lion Gallery is almost three years old. We opened at our current location on Front Street in October of 2016, and we’re celebrating for the September Bath Art Walk!  

 

It’s also been quite a summer at the Green Lion, with several new artists and a cornucopia of new work, from the gallery’s existing artists as well as the newcomers.  To celebrate both, the gallery is hosting an anniversary show of new work by many of their 30-plus artists, to highlight some of the wonderful new work, some of which has been seen only in popup shows this summer. 

 

The gallery is proud to welcome work by Pennsylvania woodcut artist Gene Shaw, who creates dramatic black and white prints, sometimes (but not always) quite large. Gene’s work combines the classic graphic impact of woodcut prints with some of the most expressive and subtle carving technique anywhere. Green Lion is also delighted to have many exquisite color etchings by Mary Teichman from Holyoke, Massachusetts, that achieve an unequaled vibrancy and depth of color, as well as beautiful images.

 

Jean Gumpper, the master of woodcut reduction printing from Colorado, brought several new examples of her wonderful eye for color. Noted woodcut printmaker Matt Brown has started working in a much larger format than ever before, and brought one of the first of the new series. Phippsburg artist Jo Schuman is hardly new to the area, but she is new to the gallery and her large-scale, masterfully simple and highly elegant woodcut prints become more delightful and intriguing every time we see them. There is also new work by gallery artists Siri Beckman, Holly Berry, David Morgan, and Sherrie York, among others.

 

The show, and reception, at 104 Front St. will be part of the final Bath Art Walk of 2019, on Friday, Sept. 20 from 4 -7 p.m.  More information at www.greenlionart.com.
