April 30 is Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Saturday, April 30 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you have unused, expired, or unwanted prescription medicines in your home, you can get rid of them safely and easily at several locations in our community.
Bring your pills for free and safe disposal to any of the five convenient locations in Lincoln County:
- Boothbay Harbor- Town Office
- Damariscotta- LincolnHealth Miles Campus
- Coopers Mills- Sheepscot Valley Health Center
- Wiscasset- Lincoln County 911 Communications Center
- Waldoboro- Police Department
The service is anonymous, and no questions asked. Properly disposing of your prescription drugs can prevent accidental poisonings and drug misuse. “Studies show a majority of misused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, or right from the home medicine cabinet. We also know flushing them or throwing them in the trash is a hazard for our water, fish, and environment. The unwanted pills brought to one of these drop off sites are safely destroyed,” says Kate Marone, director of Healthy Lincoln County.
This Drug Take Back Day happens twice a year in Maine and across the country, and is a collaborative effort among public safety and health partners to prevent misuse, thefts from homes, and pollution caused by expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. If you can’t make it on April 30, remember you can always bring your unused and unwanted prescription drugs to the following locations:
- Boothbay Harbor Police Department, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m.
- Damariscotta Police Department, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Waldoboro Police Department, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
