Assemblage artists’ show at River Arts
River Arts is celebrating another unusual and entertaining show in the West Gallery – a room full of assemblage art - with a reception on Friday, Aug. 17 from 5-7 p.m. The show is already up - and open with a number of pieces sold already! It will run through Aug. 22.
The assemblages in the show are the result of a collaboration of four women, each bringing a different background to the group. Nan McCurrach, Barbara Bean, Ann Slocum and Pat Spock have joined in together to exhibit their love of turning found objects into assemblage art pieces with an emphasis on clocks.
McCurrach is a metal worker and jeweler who studied at Penland and Haystack. Slocum graduated from Bennington College with a degree in mixed media arts and continues to work in various mediums, including collage, encaustic, printing and assemblage. Spock has been a potter since college and for years was a member of the Wallingford, Pennsylvania Potters Guild which exhibited work in the Greater Philadelphia area. Both Slocum and Spock also attended Haystack sessions. Bean is known for her painted botanicals so fans will be pleasantly surprised to see her assemblage work.
River Arts is located at 241 U.S. Route 1 (N) in Damariscotta. It is open Tuesday – Saturday 10 – 4 and Sundays 10-2. More information can be found on the website www.riverartsme.org or by calling 563-1507.
