Audition for the St. Cecilia Chamber Choir
St. Cecilia Chamber Choir will hold auditions for all voice parts at St. Andrew’s Church in Newcastle on Wednesdays at 7 p.m., Aug. 20, Aug. 27, Sept. 3, and Sept. 10.
Singers wishing to audition should have good vocal control, and sopranos and altos should be able to sing without vibrato. Tenors and basses need not be able to sing with a straight tone. The ability to read music is much preferred, but those who cannot read may participate by spending extra time learning the music at home with the aid of provided practice materials. The choir encourages gifted student singers to audition.
The choir is directed by Linda Blanchard, M.A. Conducting, University of Michigan School of Music, Ann Arbor, and A.B. Bowdoin College, and accompanied by Sean Fleming, both of Damariscotta.
To schedule an audition, contact Blanchard at 207-380-2768 or audition@ceciliachoir.org.
The choir performs a variety of challenging repertoire from the medieval period to new compositions. Last spring’s semi-staged performance of Purcell’s Baroque opera, “The Fairy-Queen” was received with great acclaim, and the choir’s annual Ceremony of Lessons and Carols concerts have become a perennial Christmas favorite in Midcoast Maine.
Rehearsals take place in Newcastle on Wednesday nights, 7 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Church located at 11 Glidden Street.
