‘Backstage’ with Snowlion Repertory Theater
Snowlion Repertory Theater received a project grant from the Maine Community Foundation to support its upcoming offering, “The Christmas Bride in Concert.” Negotiations for space and cast are underway, and it is hoped the show will perform over the summer at various venues in the Midcoast and southern Maine.
Since Snowlion Rep’s offices are in Boothbay Harbor, the planning for a possible summer theater program is moving forward actively. A 3-year plan to establish a small professional theater in the greater Boothbay Region has been written and vetted by the board of directors, and the early groundwork is being laid to fully explore feasibility. Coming up in 2023: a return to one of our most successful musical ventures, this time as a concert performance that can fit into a variety of venues throughout Maine. “The Christmas Bride in Concert” will present a joyous tale of love lost and found, home and family, faith and forgiveness, based on a story by Charles Dickens. From the bright English countryside to the dark underbelly of London town, this charming musical, with a gorgeous score, follows young Marion Jeddler on her journey of discovery through a world filled with delightful Dickensian characters. Christmas in July? Why not?
And plans are forming to bring a new play to production in the fall. In “The Real Don Juan: The Passion of Lord Byron,” the infamous poet, who was heralded as a genius satirist of his society until his penchant for scandalous behavior led to his exile and ultimate demise, finds himself in a strange room with a frightening door to the unknown. Forced to examine his life, with the help, or perhaps torment, of a mysterious female stranger, the 'mad, bad, and dangerous to know' Lord Byron must account for his treatment of those he proclaimed to love, or face the same fate as the legendary figure his most famous work was based on.
