Baseball bat, knives allegedly come out in Bath fight
A pair of men were arrested Wednesday in Bath after they allegedly fought and made threats with a baseball bat and a pair of knives.
Robert McKenney, 43, of Woolwich and Logan Sewall, 30, of Bath were arrested and each charged with disorderly conduct after they allegedly fought at an apartment complex.
Officers from the Bath Police Department and the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office were called in for a report of a fight Wednesday evening.
When the officers arrived they reportedly found Sewall outside of a Court Street apartment building in Bath at approximately 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. Sewell is alleged to have been holding knives while he was outside of the building, yelling.
Bath Police Officer Garrett Olsen and Sagadahoc Sgt. Gregory Siegal reportedly ordered Sewall to lie on the ground, which he did eventually do, according to a release from the Bath Police Department. According to the same report, Sewall was “agitated, but did finally comply with the commands” before he was arrested and charged with one count of Class E disorderly conduct.
While Sewall was being arrested, a second man reportedly began yelling out of the apartment at the two officers. The man, who was later identified as McKenney, reportedly began yelling at the officers and Sewall, and allegedly began hurling obscenities and threats at the officers and at Sewall.
McKenney was arrested without incident after Bath Cpl. Jason Aucoin arrived.
After interviewing witnesses at the Bath Police Department, it was reported that McKenney had allegedly assaulted Sewall and threatened him with a baseball bat at one point, according to the police report. Allegedly, Sewall in turn grabbed the knives after “being in fear of his life” according to the police report. Sewall was released on personal recognizance bail and will have a court date Oct. 6 at the West Bath District Court.
McKenney allegedly became agitated while he was being processed at the police station; he was reportedly uncooperative, allegedly made threats and spat at police officers.
McKenney was charged with Class C criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, Class D assault, and Class E disorderly conduct and was sent to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on $1,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to have a court date Oct. 13 at West Bath District Court.
The pair have both been to Two Bridges Regional Jail several times before the incident. McKenney has been to the jail 14 times, including the Wednesday arrest; and Sewall has been to Two Bridges 11 times since 2006.
If convicted, McKenney could face prison crime, as Class C crimes are felonies and are punishable by up to five years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. Class D crimes are misdemeanors and are punishable by up to 364 days in jail and up to a $2,000 fine. Class E crimes are also misdemeanors and are punishable by up to six months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.
