Boothbay Harbor woman hurt in Route 27, Wiscasset rollover Saturday
A Boothbay Harbor woman was released from a Damariscotta hospital Saturday morning after the car she was driving on Route 27 in Wiscasset rolled over, police said.
She was able to get herself out the car, which had come to a rest on its roof in a ditch just north of Gibbs Road, Wiscasset police and fire officials said.
The woman complained of neck, back and knee pain, Fire Chief T.J. Merry said. She was the car’s lone occupant, officials said.
There were no brake marks so it appears that Jennifer D’Alesando, 31, may have fallen asleep or passed out while driving the maroon 1998 Pontiac Bonneville northbound on Route 27, or Gardiner Road, Police Sgt. Alfred Simmons said. The car crossed over to the southbound side, hit a driveway and rolled over, Simmons said.
The accident remained under investigation, Simmons said.
Wiscasset Ambulance Service took D’Alesando to LincolnHealth-Miles Campus, where she was later released, Simmons said. The car was totaled; Blagden’s Wrecker Service removed it, he said.
Route 27 was shut down until the ambulance left for the hospital. The road was shut down once more, for the car’s removal, Simmons said.
D’Alesando was wearing a seat belt, which may have prevented more serious injuries, the sergeant said. “She was lucky. Really lucky,” Simmons said. “It definitely made a difference,” he said about her wearing the seat belt.
The accident was reported at 7:10 a.m., Merry said. No other vehicles were involved, officials said.
