Boothbay, Newcastle drivers unhurt in Wiscasset chain-reaction accident
An N.C. Hunt Corp. pickup truck on Wiscasset’s Main Street Friday morning struck a car, starting a chain-reaction, four-vehicle accident near the post office Friday morning, Wiscasset Police Officer Alfred Simmons said at the scene.
No one was hurt, Simmons said.
A black 2006 Nissan sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Charles Canning, 56, of Cumberland Foreside had stopped for a pedestrian using a crosswalk, Simmons said. Behind the Nissan, a red 2013 Subaru Forrester driven by Barbara Eldred, 78, of Boothbay, stopped, as did the vehicle behind it, a blue 1989 Volvo driven by Jean Cunningham, 76, also of Boothbay, Simmons said.
“The fourth one didn’t (stop),” Simmons said.
That vehicle, a white 2010 Dodge pickup truck owned by N.C. Hunt Corp. of Jefferson and driven by Brandon Simmons, 28, of Newcastle, struck the back of the Volvo, Officer Simmons said. The Volvo then struck the Subaru, which in turn struck the Nissan, he said.
The Volvo took the brunt of the damage, with major front and rear damage, he said. Blagden’s Wrecker Service of Wiscasset removed it from the scene. The other cars were not disabled.
The Nissan received no damage; the Subaru, minor front and rear damage; and the pickup, some front-end damage, Officer Simmons said.
Brandon Simmons, no relation to the officer, didn’t notice that the other vehicles were stopped, Officer Simmons said. No one was charged in the accident, reported at 8:43 a.m. Oct. 2. The pedestrian was most of the way across the street when the accident happened.
The Wiscasset Fire Department helped direct traffic on Main Street.
