Boothbay Region Education Association makes donation to reconstruct gazebo at Edgecomb Eddy School
When the Edgecomb Eddy School moved to its present location just off Route 27, a gazebo that was constructed at the former school site on Cross Point Road was brought to the new site at the time of the school's opening in 2002. The gazebo received significant use daily by the school’s pupils but eventually over time reached a point where it was no longer safe for the students to use. Therefore, it reached a point where, for safety issues, the school felt that the safest thing to do was tear it down and build a new one. School officials looked into buying a kit to replace the gazebo but the kit were more expensive than could realistically be afforded.
Thus, due to the cost, the plan was changed to try to get the job done by volunteers, with the father of a current third grader offering to take a lead role in this endeavor. The school is hopeful that the gazebo can be completed before the snow flies this winter.
To help facilitate the construction’s success, Mark Gorey, president of the Boothbay Region Education Association (BREA), and teacher, Nancy Rose a member of the BREA, presented the Eddy School with a check to help jump start construction. Principal Lisa Clarke expressed her appreciation for the recent donation by the BREA, hoping that this will further move the rebuilding of the school’s gazebo before the cold of winter arrives.
Those interested in making a donation of either time, money or supplies for the gazebo’s construction should contact Principal Clarke at the Eddy School.
