Buster Keaton comedy classics set to live original music at Lincoln Theater
Lincoln Theater in downtown Damariscotta is welcoming the Andrew Alden Ensemble on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. in a program of silent comedy classic Buster Keaton films set to original contemporary music.
The Andrew Alden Ensemble is a contemporary and electronic chamber music group from Boston, Massachusetts. Their goal is to bring forth new music for chamber music and film. The ensemble produces textual scores for film and performs them in front of a live audience to transform the picture with new sounds and experiences.
The Andrew Alden Ensemble brings together a fascinating collaboration of rock music and contemporary classical composition including percussion, synthesizer, piano, violin, viola and electronic production. Their music combines the influence of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, David Lang, Radiohead, Velvet Underground and Krzysvtof Penderecki to create a beautiful and haunting sound.
For this special engagement, the Ensemble will be providing music for classic silent comedy films of the great Buster Keaton, including four shorts: “One Week” (1920), “Haunted House” (1921), “Cops” (1922), “The Blacksmith” (1922); and the Buster Keaton feature, “The General” (1926).
The General, which was co-directed by Keaton, is now considered by critics as one of the greatest films ever made. In 2007, it was ranked #18 by the American Film Institute on their 10th anniversary list of the 100 best American movies of all time.
Tickets are $10 adults and $8/LT members and youth 18 and under. Tickets will be available at the door.
