Call to artists for ‘Artist’s Choice’ show
River Arts in Damariscotta is calling artists to submit artwork to the “Artist’s Choice” show. The deadline for entry is Saturday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. Art historian and critic, Daniel Kany will be the juror for this exhibition.
Work in all mediums (including sculpture, painting, photography, drawing) and styles (representational or abstract) will be considered. Entry fee is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. Works must be suitably wired for hanging and clearly labeled with artist’s name and title on the back. Works previously shown at River Arts may not be submitted.
Artists will be notified by email or phone of the juror’s decision. Entry forms are available online at riverartsme.org and at the gallery.
Cumberland-based Kany is an art historian, art critic, musician and freelance writer. More than 480 of Kany’s award-winning art criticism columns have appeared in the Maine Sunday Telegram and the Portland Press Herald. Kany has authored dozens of catalogs, publications and magazine articles about art and artists. Kany currently serves on the editorial board of the Maine Arts Journal: The UMVA Quarterly. He has won multiple awards from the Maine Press Association for his art criticism.
An experienced curator, Kany has been a director of the Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle, Friesen Gallery, William Traver Gallery and the Daniel Kany Gallery.
The opening reception for “Artist’s Choice” is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8 from 5-7 p.m.
