Campers juggle writing and circus arts
Kids at the first-ever Circus Stories February Vacation Adventure immersed themselves in a three-day circus celebration. The Merry Barn in Edgecomb was alive with juggling, plate spinning, and balancing of all kinds. Students learned circus history and read stories and real-life accounts of the greatest show on Earth. Campers wrote poetry and wordless picture books and created posters for their own circuses using hyperbole and elements of graphic design. On the final afternoon, campers showcased their talents with a difficult group juggle. Each camper then selected a piece of writing or art, and honed a short circus performance, to share with an audience of family and friends.
Circus Stories is a collaboration between the Merry Barn Writers’ Retreat and Learning on the Move (www.learningonthemove.org). An expanded version of the Circus Stories Adventure will be offered twice this summer at the Merry Barn – July 6-10 and July 27-31
