Chimney fire at Wiscasset home Saturday night
A homeowner’s quick response ended a chimney fire at Lowelltown Road home on Saturday night, Wiscasset Fire Chief T.J. Merry said Sunday. Ryan Chadwick emptied both of the home’s wood stoves after seeing flames three to four feet in height at the chimney, Merry said.
When Merry arrived, the fire was out and firefighters only needed to clean the chimney, the fire chief said. No one was hurt; there was no damage to the two-story cape at 154 Lowelltown Road, Merry said. The fire department was called out to the chimney fire at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, he said.
The call to the chimney fire was followed on Sunday night by two more calls for the fire department. At about 7 p.m. Feb. 15, firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide alarm at 11 Cheney Drive that turned out to be an apparent battery problem with the detector; and at about 10 p.m., they investigated a report of smoke at Garden Island Laundromat on Route 1; there was a haze, but no problem was found and no source of smoke, Merry said on Monday.
