Coastal Rivers offers online program with author Tom Wessels
From 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust is hosting author and terrestrial ecologist Tom Wessels for an online program on interpreting the history of local woodlands.
Using photos submitted by participants, Wessels will interpret the history of the woodlands, observing how they have been impacted by human activities such as agriculture or logging, or natural disruptions such as storm events or fire. He may also point out unique plant adaptations and interesting co-evolved interrelationships among woodland species observed in the photos.
The program is free of charge, thanks to member support. Registration is required at coastalrivers.org/events. Following registration, participants will receive an email with instructions on how to submit photos and a link to join the program online.
Wessels is professor emeritus at Antioch University where he founded the master’s degree program in conservation biology. As a terrestrial ecologist he has worked in forest, desert, arctic, and alpine ecosystems. Wessels is the author of numerous books, with his latest being “New England’s Roadside Ecology: Explore 30 of the Region’s Unique Natural Areas.” He has conducted workshops on ecology, natural history, and sustainability throughout the country for over three decades.
