Community Arts at the Y to feature Winslow Myers
Local artist Winslow Myers will show a selection of his large landscapes at the Central Lincoln County (CLC) YMCA from Oct. 22 to Dec. 22. Myers sells his work through Yvette Torres Fine Art in Rockland, the George Marshall Store Gallery in York, and his own home gallery in Bristol.
Myers was born in 1941 and grew up on the Damariscotta River in Walpole. After finishing his graduate work in fine arts painting, he taught studio art and art history at various schools and colleges in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, keeping up an active painting practice.
After retiring from full-time teaching in 2005, he returned to Maine, where he serves on the board of the Coastal Senior College and is an active member of his local Rotary Club. He is finishing a monograph on his teacher, the Canadian-American painter Walter Tandy Murch.
Myers states, “I’m pleased to display a few of my pieces at the CLC Y because the Y is a major focal point of our community’s resilience. Maine is a place where there is so much harsh beauty in the landscape, so much character and generosity in the people, so many gifted artists, that a life in art here is a collegial feast.”
