Damariscotta man sentenced to jail for assault
A Damariscotta man who allegedly assaulted an underaged girl has been sentenced to jail.
Randall Main, 43, of Damariscotta pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in November at the Lincoln County District Court in Wiscasset.
Main was sentenced to a year in jail with all but 45 days suspended and will be on probation for a year. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and was ordered to have no contact, unless incidental, with children under the age of 18.
Main was originally charged with eight crimes, seven of which were unlawful sexual assault, which is a Class D misdemeanor.
Main was originally arrested in 2014 after he allegedly had illicit contact with a then 16-year old. In November 2014 the case was sent to Det. Scott Hayden after being referred by the Department of Health and Human Services. During one of Hayden's interviews with the victim, she reportedly said the alleged assaults took place over several years but stopped in 2014.
When Hayden interviewed Main, he allegedly said the stories were made up to try and break up a relationship he was in at the time.
Main was ordered to begin his sentence immediately in November.
