Damariscotta men arrested for area burglaries
On Friday, June 12, a joint investigation between the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Damariscotta Police Department resulted in the arrest of Christopher Gove, 20, of Damariscotta and Cody Beal, 21, also of Damariscotta. This was the result of an ongoing investigation into burglaries in the Lincoln County area.
The investigators received information that Christopher Gove had allegedly burglarized a storage unit in Newcastle and stole coins. Gove was initially interviewed by investigators about the single burglary and he admitted to this crime.
Further investigation revealed that Christopher Gove had allegedly pawned a number of items at the Mainly Pawn Shop in Damariscotta. Search warrants for surveillance photos of subjects cashing coins were obtained along with search warrants for cell phone activity. As a result of this investigation, two suspects were revealed, Gove being one and Beal being the other. Both subjects were interviewed and allegedly admitted their involvement.
The suspects had allegedly primarily been stealing coins and jewelry. While investigators believe most of the incidents have been reported, there were a few summer homes targeted and there may be more left unreported. At this time the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is investigating 13 burglaries, which Gove and Beal are believed to be involved with.
Both subjects were arrested and charged with class C burglary, which is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine.
This investigation is ongoing and more charges will follow. Anyone with information concerning this investigation are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Ron Rollins at 207-882-7332.
