DaPonte offers chamber music workshop
The members of the DaPonte String Quartet have designed an intimate weekend workshop for 20-24 intermediate and advanced-level string players. Musicians can share their passion for chamber music and develop their understanding of the great works of the string quartet literature.
The workshop will take place at the Deck House School in Edgecomb Friday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 18. Applications are available at www.daponte.org.
The Quartet will coach participants on all aspects of ensemble playing: listening, cueing, communication, rhythm, intonation, blending, and theory and music history. Musicians may come as part of a preformed quartet (or quintet), or as individuals who will be placed in a group compatible to their level.
Coaching will be provided by individual members of the quartet in a round robin fashion throughout the weekend, culminating in an informal performance of all the participants on Sunday afternoon. The quartet will give a one-hour topical presentation on Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening will include a mass ensemble reading of a great work.
The Deck House School, located at 124 Deckhouse Road on a hill overlooking the Sheepscot River, offers a secluded and comfortable setting. It is just minutes from the lovely villages of Wiscasset, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Damariscotta.
Catered meals are provided for all participants, and those who want lodging are eligible for reduced rates at the nearby Cod Cove Inn.
