David R. Coosard
David Rollin Coosard, 83, of Rockland went home to be with the Lord, Aug. 7, 2018.
David was born in Taymouth Township, Michigan on January 13, 1935, the son of Everard and Amy (Quackenbush) Coosard.
After graduation from high school, David served proudly in the United States Navy, being honorably discharged from active duty in 1957, and from the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1960. His active tour included service aboard the USS Stormes. David was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.
Following the Navy, David worked in Michigan for the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, and managed a local savings & loan there before moving to Maine in the late 1970s. He retired from Bath Iron Works in 1998.
A strong faith in God guided David throughout his life, from teaching Bible studies to fellow students in high school, to his lifelong membership in local Baptist churches where he lived. David read from the Bible daily throughout his life until his deteriorating vision no longer allowed him to do so. He was a longtime member of the Boothbay Baptist Church, and later the Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church in Rockland, where he also served as a deacon.
David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy (Schafer) Coosard of Rockland; three sons, Michael, Mark, and Greg Coosard; two daughters, Michelle Peaco and her husband Thomas of Rockland, and their sons, Zachary, Joshua, and Andrew; Jennifer Holloway and her husband Robert, and their daughters, Alyssa and Sierra.
David was predeceased by his parents; his brother Jere Coosard of East Boothbay; and his first wife Earlene (Albright) Coosard.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, and will be immediately followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. The Reverend Dr. Linwood Welch will officiate.
