Don Davis for selectman
Dear Editor:
Wiscasset is facing some major issues in the near future. Our taxes are rising as inflation hits everyone. Real and hard decisions will have to be made to reduce our costs and maintain our quality of life. I am supporting Don Davis as selectman for his broad professional experience, and in particular for his qualifications to address two of the most important areas that will be essential for our Select Board to address – the wastewater treatment plant and the waterfront.
In addition to six years as a selectman in his former community, Don also served as the water commissioner there. Our sewer plant, whether it is moved or rebuilt, will be a major expense which we cannot avoid. Don has knowledge that will prove invaluable as we make major decisions in that area.
Don also offers expertise in the development of our waterfront. He has served on our Waterfront Committee and currently serves on the Waterfront Advisory Board. He believes that sensible waterfront development can be a source of income to the town, and doesn’t necessarily require major town expenditure and management.
Don would like to take a new and unique approach to our town services which could reduce costs and stabilize our taxes. He knows that economic development is also essential to our future, and could greatly increase our tax base. His experience, knowledge and willingness to explore new ways of cutting costs are all qualities we need in a selectman, and I encourage Wiscasset to take advantage of his willingness to serve.
