Embezzlement probe leads to arrest
Lincoln County sheriff’s detectives arrested a Bristol man following an investigation into alleged embezzlement from two Bristol businesses. Joseph Corson, 51, faces a Class B theft charge.
Corson has worked since 2001 as the bookkeeper for Ideal Septic and McPhee Enterprises. The companies have the same owner.
The owner noticed discrepancies in the books and notified the Sheriff’s Office. It appears in excess of $150,000 was allegedly stolen from the businesses over the past 10 years. Corson allegedly regularly overpaid himself and allegedly made numerous unauthorized purchases with the company credit card.
He was arrested at work and taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. Corson was later released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
